Week13: 13/1 Final Project - A Hula Dancer Dance in 3D Printer
This project I tried to break up my original and traditional thinking way that I thought of a dancer dance in a 3D printer. Because everybody will think 3D printer as a tool or machine instead of think of a stage for dancer. Because of we have the machine, so we can create a lot of amazing shapes of outcomes. I want to describe 3D printer can be a stage for every single small object to express.
Week 13: 13/2 Documentation of Hula Dancer (Final Project)
Final Project Ideas:

1. Create the model.

2. Send to Maker Bot: center and flat lay down the model.

3. Preview before send to printer.

4. Heat the printer, set up everything.

5. Printing.

6. Printing Process.

7. During the printing process, I also video tape the motivation process include song to show the movement of 3D printer. It's just like the dancer dance on the stage. Then I use iMove to edit the video.

Week 13: 13/1 Whole Course Reflection
My learning objectives:
1. Learn more new medias.
2. Integrate new media in traditional art assignment.
3. Increase my abilities to use technology.
4. Be creative in using new technology, and learn use digital devices to create a meaningful and interesting critique.
Reflection:
At the beginning of the class, I felt confused about taking this course. Because I didn't think technology can be a good tool to help create a meaningful and engaging class for students. All I think about technology is computer and game, it means students should far away from them because when students are obsessed with games and computer will bring bad influences on their study. I believed traditional education methods are the best way to educate. After I learned course, I want change my mind that new media bring so much fun to the traditional class and also a great way to help children learning and expand their knowledge in a positive way.
I think I'm pretty good to reach all my goals. I learned and made different projects use different medias and enjoyed learning process. These experiences helped me think about create the lesson. Because I have been experienced, when I teach I know what kind of problems students may have and help me understand how students learning. Also increased my abilities to use technology and solved the technology problem when I met. A lot of materials and machines I never used before, such as 3D printer and circuit, expand my knowledge of using different types of new medias. It also help me break my traditional thinking to use new media in a creative way, such as scanner not only for use scan paper and photo, it could also be a tool to create a meaningful lesson.
I loved this course and in the future teaching I will try my best to engage as much technology as I can integrate to different disciplines, such as science, nature, math, geography, history, and etc. to help students learning in a relax, interesting, and enjoyable classroom environment.

Week 12: 12/2 Take away
Relationship between "making" and art classroom
Before I read the article, I have never thought about use computer as a tool to produce something in the classroom. Instead of always think use computer to help design the art lesson. I think it's a new method for both teacher and students to explore combine computer and traditional classroom to produce something. So the class must be an complex class integrate science and technology into art.
Also to produce something can be something easy and simply, just like we discussed circuit in class. It can finish in a short time also can make and produce something complex. As a teacher, we need to think about what we want students learn from the produce process. It cannot only be fun, also need them learn something from the working process.
Also from the article of Piaget's theories, he mentioned provide students with a learning environment grounded in action. Making and producing is a good new method for students create their own learning environment when they working and producing. During these process, every single student will use problem solving as a learning tool to solve problem in order to spread their knowledge and learning by themselves. Also most of students will feel interested in these working process and fully engage them in class.

Week 10: Classmate's Takeaways

Overall:
After looking peers websites I learned a lot, because everyones' work looks different. Everyone had very different, unique, and creative thought I can takeaway. It's very good process for me to learn from others and expand my knowledge. It's also can be used in the younger age students' classroom to help them learn more from peers.
Week 10: 10/1 Laser Cutting

I use PhotoShop to edit the painting I painted and made it more contrast in black and white. Then use Laser Cut machine print different part of my painting.
I tried multiple times on one piece of paper and then work on final piece. Because testing is helpful to make the result more successful, I never used laser cutter before. It's also a good experience to learned from process. Now, I felt I'm enjoyed in working and can't wait go back to make more if I have time.

Week 9 9/2 Experience on Scratch
When the first time used Scratch in class, I felt it's really hard. Although we had 30 mins to make a small movement, I felt stressful. It's not easy tool I used before that really need time to experience it and get familiar with it. When I did homework, I felt it's much better for me to work with Scratch. I began enjoyed the whole planning process and felt it's interesting that should have a lot of opportunities to connect with the art class. It's also really challenge for teacher to use this tool. I think the earliest age to work with Scratch should be middle school. Before do the assignment, the teacher should have a brief explanation class to help students explore Scratch, and then include some practices will be better to know students are understand. It's a good tool to connect with other disciplines in art classroom, such as create the game for gamers to practice math, reading, or writing. Students to create a story help them naturally develop logical and critical thinking skills in the art class, because they will focus on how to make the story rather than practice the thinking skills. So that's why I think art classroom is essential and important for people to make them growth and practice skills.

Week 8: 8/3 2 Take aways from the Article
During the progress of Do-It-Yourself (DIY), students be the leader to decide what they want to create. It's develop not only the art working skills with different media, also the ability of problems solving, logical thinking to create the story, planning skill, design, and ect. It's the great way for students develop in a complex way.
Good ideas need to think outside of the box. Although technology expand quickly in today. Students also need to inspire from some traditional places. Attend or create some opportunities for students, such as plan a different activities, go to the museum to see the traditional art works, and etc. will help students collect ideas. When combine these ideas with technology, it always has some amazing out comes.

Week 5: 5/3 Three Take - Away from Reading
1. I'm agree with the author that no remix, no culture. Every person has different background culture and experiences. Such as when artists create a new piece of art, some of them will go to the museum, gallery or exhibition to learn from previous works to get some ideas, some of them will inspire from the app called Pinterest (especially for art teacher), and so on. This learning or inspiration process also the process learning from different artist's cultures. When make a new piece of art will add another culture because a person's idea or thinking always relate to his or her person culture influences or personal experiences. So if we don't remix things, it will not have the culture communicates. Because artists communicates always use the artworks they create.
2. I think it will have more opportunities and interesting outcomes by using techniques, such as Adobe and music remix apps. Because it's very quick to see what two pieces work together and make the change immediately. For example, use photoshop we can overlap the photos and combine photo together and also do the photo collage (cut the part you want to include). It's encourage people creatively to use different and variety photos and tools to remix a new piece. It's much more interesting.
3. Include Digital Devices in class teaching will engage more students enjoy the learn process. And also help them learn from variety communities useful to expand their knowledge in a short time. Because students can search online such as YouTube, blog, etc. to find the information or sources they want to learn. During the finding process, they also will learn a lot of things to see the different stories and combine these all together to create the new knowledge and idea they want to share.

Week 5: 5/2 Potential of Scanography
I think the potential of scanography is not only for fun, but also encourage students or people engage in making art and expressive their idea through scanner. During the working process, students or people will find amazing outcomes they never thought and brings a lot of surprise. Sometimes that surprise will inspire students or people more ideas. It's the continuously and creatively thinking process combine technique media and art to make artworks. It's also help students and people to solve the problem when using scanner that they need to decide what kind of outcomes they want to create and deal with where lights comes from, the color matching, and the whole composition. In other way, it also the process of aesthetic training.

Week 4: 4/1 Creative Assignment

Ideas:
1. This photo remind me come out from the darkness. The blurry light seems like the hope from the life or society. People grab that light and create better life they want.
2. This photo looks very mystery. Just like the single person. Everyone's different, they have multiple different roles in the society, different behaviors, and different ways to deal with different problems. If you want to really know a person, you need to touch and communicate with that person. Instead of how that person you think of just depend on single things or appearance.
Outcomes: Idea 2.
Week 4: 4/3 Digital Photography connect to Children
1. Bring pride and high satisfaction to children. Children can't make art working in high quality because they have limited practice and use art materials in art. Digital photography is easy to use and select the place or people children want to take a photo. When the result turns out, it brings confidence for children.
2. Develop both art and science appreciation. Photography as an art is a marvelous tool of creative, self-expression. It can open a person's mind use photos to communicate with others. As science, it teach children technical tool that how to adjust light, math, etc.
3. Encourage children learn from new perspectives. Before learning digital photography, we ask what's in the picture or artwork? By use digital photography children decide what they want to put in the photo and decide what's the main subject. It also help children develop decision making skills.

Week 2: On/Off Experienment
I turned off the computer and digital devices for two days. In these days, I trying to live as normal as possible, but it's not doing very well. I find out leave digital devices the first day I'm became boring and nothing to do at home. I can't see the TV show, listen to the music, and contact with friends. On the second day, I started to go out to the art museum, go to gym, bring the book to the century park had a wonderful time with natural. I think my life without digital devices is more healthy and natural, but not as fun as with digital devices and convenient.

Without digital devices: close to natural but everyday kind of the same.

With digital devices: Everyday is different such as search interesting things online, use different apps to share your life with others, see TV shows, and so on. It's very colorful and different.

Week 1: 1/4 Take Away
By reading the Chapter 1 - Time, I'm agree with Digital technologies are based away from time, and toward asynchronous. The big example is email, nowadays email become more and more popular than phone. People can response their email when they want to response instead of immediately just like phone call. It also give people room and time to think about the content they want to response. The reason of email become more popular is it doesn't cost a lot. People can go to the place have wifi or stay at the public with wifi work with computer do anything they want to do. Also you can set up the email comes offline instead of going online to get emails. It's create the personal space that make people feel safe. In this way people email to engage with the digital that to connect to the net work and also can use others to links to blog comment, social networking message, or tweet and so on in order to build the relationships to other people, work, or gaming with each other. And people also enjoys on it. Digital media engaged in our lives from decades ago and it slowly becomes the important part of our life. It expand the way we think and use.
By reading the Chapter 2 - Place, from Gina's example I thought especially for young people in nowadays, they are super related to the technology instead of networking and communicating with people in person. They are slowly forget to be active in the place they want to enjoy instead of pay attention to the technology such as post pictures online to share with people in a digital environment. But the digital offers more opportunities to know from others in the world and increase the quality of working when interact with media. People do not need to go to the Europe to know the history of Renaissance and the building strictures of artistic buildings. People just need to find the informations they need via media to help understanding and learning. It's more in high efficiency. But under this situation, I think people need to combine the real world and digital world to find the way they wish to live and work.

Week 1: 1/1 About Me

In 2010, I finished my high school in Shanghai and moved to United State with my family in Seattle. I started my college in University of Cincinnati in Early Childhood major. in 2012 I changed my major to Art Education and transferred to Miami University in Oxford campus. I complete a B.A. at Miami University in May 2016. Currently, I'm study in Columbia University Teachers College in M. A. Init Program. In my first year of high school, I had opportunity to learn drawing and painting. So, the experience influenced me want to be a art teacher. During my undergraduate years, I had a few experience work with new media, such as Illustration, Photoshop, iMovie, and sketch-up. In last semester, I taught high school in Oxford, Ohio. I designed a class that students use iPad to take bunch of photos, and they used these photos to create a small movie to introduce themselves. In that experience I found that bring technology to class encourage students be active in class assignment. Help students engage in class and with each other to solve problems. So, I really want to learn more different new medias in order to create a interesting, engagement, and high quality learning environment for my future students.
